“Hi, I'm Ryan!
I build software for Optimization AI, which solves problems like vehicle routing, inventory management, scheduling, and pricing. I'm currently co-founder and CTO of Nextmv (pronounced "next move"), a Decision Ops platform for optimization teams.
Before this, I ran the Decision Engineering departments at Grubhub and Zoomer. We worked on demand forecasting, driver scheduling, and real-time routing. Aggregated restaurant delivery was an awesome way to apply optimization in new ways, and ended up being my dissertation topic.
When I'm not building mathematical models or software, you can find me at a Classical Uprising concert, mentoring at the Roux, or playing the cello. I've worked up a lot of chamber music over the years and am always looking for other musicians to form groups with!
Lighting round:
What brought you to Maine? We were part of the YC W20 batch, in temporary housing in SF. When the pandemic hit, we didn't have a place to return to. We ended up in Maine because I have family here.
Best part of Maine life? Our incredible access to nature, impressive food scene, top-notch classical music, and being near family.
First job? Lots of food service back in the 90s. Burger King, Subway, Papa Johns. Delivering pizza before cell phones existed was a very different experience than it is now.
Currently listening to? Caroline Shaw's "Evergreen" album, Luigi Rossi's "L'Orfeo," and Maya Beiser's arrangements of Philip Glass etudes.
Connect with me if you want to talk about AI, optimization, supply chain, or classical music!
